Heralding South Africa's stories with steady resolve

Corrections Policy — Africa Pulse Media

Africa Pulse Media is committed to accuracy, fairness and transparency in our coverage of South Africa and the region. When we get something wrong we correct it promptly and clearly. This page explains how to report errors, how we review and correct content, where corrections appear, and expected timelines.

How to report an error

Please tell us about factual mistakes, misattributions, misleading headlines, incorrect images or material omissions by: - Emailing [email protected] - Using the /contact/ form on our site

When possible, include the article URL, paragraph or section in question, and a concise description of the error.

Internal review steps

When a correction request is received we follow these steps: 1. Acknowledgement — we aim to acknowledge receipt within one business day. 2. Triage — an editor assesses severity (minor typo, factual error, legal/safety concern). 3. Verification — reporters, editors or external sources are consulted to establish the correct information. 4. Decision — the editor in charge determines whether a formal correction, clarification or retraction is required. 5. Correction text — we draft a clear correction notice explaining what was changed and why. 6. Update — the article is updated and the correction notice is published per the guidelines below. 7. Notification — the requester is informed of the outcome and, when appropriate, corrections are explained to affected parties.

Serious matters that involve potential defamation, privacy or safety risks are escalated immediately to senior editors and may involve legal review.

Where corrections appear

  • Inline updates: material corrections are made in the article itself. A correction note is added at the top (or bottom, where context requires) stating what changed and the date of the change.
  • Corrections page: a record of significant corrections will appear on this page to preserve the published record and explain our process.
  • Social updates: when a correction materially alters a story previously promoted on our channels, we will update or correct those posts as needed.

Minor edits for grammar, spelling or style that do not affect meaning are made silently and are not logged as corrections.

Timelines

  • Acknowledgement: within one business day.
  • Simple factual corrections: posted within 48 hours of verification.
  • Complex investigations or legal reviews: may take up to 14 days; we will update the requester on progress.
  • Urgent safety or legal removals: handled immediately and noted here where appropriate.

We do not remove articles from the public record except in narrow circumstances (legal requirement or risk to safety). Preserving the historical record while correcting it matters to us.
