The murder trial of four men accused of killing former boxing world champion Zolani Tete will resume on the 8th of December, after the case was postponed in the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape.
The four accused appeared before the court on 13 October 2026, with proceedings pushed back to allow investigators additional time to advance their inquiries as the matter moves toward trial. The postponement marks the latest delay in a case that has drawn sustained attention across the province and the boxing world.
At the centre of the state’s case sits Uzuzole Goqwana, whom prosecutors allege was the mastermind behind the attack. The four men face charges including murder, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Meanwhile, one gap remains in the investigation. A fifth suspect has not yet been arrested. Investigators are still working to establish the whereabouts of that individual, and the December date gives the police a window to pursue outstanding leads before the matter proceeds further.
Tete, a former two-division world champion known in the ring as “Last Born”, was shot and killed outside his home in Mdantsane in August. His girlfriend survived the attack. The killing of a fighter who reached the top of the sport in two weight divisions has resonated widely in the Eastern Cape, where Tete’s career made him one of the region’s most prominent sporting figures.
What comes next is fixed: the case returns to the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on the 8th of December, by which time investigators are expected to have made further progress on the outstanding suspect and the remaining lines of inquiry. Further details from the day’s proceedings were reported by Eyewitness News, whose coverage is available here: https://www.ewn.co.za/2026/10/13/zolani-tete-murder-trial-pushed-to-december-as-police-hunt-outstanding-suspect
For now, the matter rests with the court calendar and the investigating team. The December date sets the next fixed point in a case that has already moved through several appearances, and the arrest of the fifth suspect remains the most significant development still outstanding before the accused are asked to answer the charges against them at trial.
